dimmers on energy saving bulbs

This may be a stupid question,
But i wont know until i ask.

Can you still use dimmer switches on energy saving light bulbs?

The reason i ask is i went round my mates mums house last night and couldn't believe she had 22 lights in the front room,
(5xDouble wall lights, 2xSix ceiling lights).

I found it funny that she was using three dimmer switches and mixing the fittings with different wattage on bulbs, (25/40/60). yet moaning it was a pain replacing different watt bulbs all the time.

I suggested using energy saving bulbs, but then she should me all these huge dimmers (ugly)

No, in a short answer.
They work in a totally different way to normal fillament type light bulbs and will not work with dimmers.

You can get energy efficient lamps that are specifically designed to run on dimmers.

I saw that, on varilight website it says their full range is available there. Its a poo website anyway.
