direct or indirect system

Hi, im trying to find out weather my water system is Indirect or direct, but struggling to find out. can anyone help? We have a 1970s Baxi bermuda Back boiler, Copper cylinder in airing cupboard with vent pipe and immersion heater screwed in through top of cylinder and a cold tank in loft. Any more info needed just say. thanks to anyone that can help.

how many tanks in the loft ?

does it say primatic or single feed on the cylinder ?

cant see any label on cylinder (unless its on "back" and i cant see it. only 1 tank in loft, old galvanized iron or steel but still working.

which (if its still got an air bubble in) would make it indirect

havent seen a direct system on a back boiler for years

primatic... ok. is that good or bad? system works ok or seems to do apart from bit of kettling from 1970s boiler. iv heard from people that primatic are a bad thing but others say there good thing that are reliable.

A primatic (single feed indirect) cylinder was commonly used in the 60's through to early 80's on boilers with gravity circulation as it was an easier way to pipe it, no expansion tank required. On filling, an air bubble was formed (a bit like an upside down bucket inside) which seperated the domestic side from the heating side. This air bubble could fail after a while and to recharge the cylinder/ heating system had to be drained and refilled.
If you change your system at anytime to fully pumped the cylinder would have to be changed.
As your boiler is kettling, don't be tempted to add a flushing chemical (or an inhibitor) as it may mix with the domestic side and you could be showering in X800
