Hello,

I have just cut completely through my alarm cable as I was removing the carpet in my upstairs bedroom.

The alarm went off - its quite old and says Optima Compact on the front panel.

Entering the code didn't stop it. Afer much panic I managed to expose all 6 wires on either side of the cut and twisted the corresponding colours together.

Hurrah, the alarm stopped.

I have 2 questions (a) its a flimsy repair and I wondered if I can buy anything to connect the wires together better (b) How do I turn the thing off when in tamper mode. PS: I have very little money and so DIY will have to do.

you will have to solder and sleave (or tape) the wires.

i guess it was the outside bell / sounder that went off?

Hello,

Thanks - the trouble is every time I touch/move the part that I cut, the alarm goes off now. However, when I enter the code it stops. If I try and do a better job, how do I prevent it going off in tamper mode again ?

its the connections that you have made that are now causing the problem. They are bad connections. you need to do them properly.

If it's the wires to the bell that you cut though then you can't prevent the siren going off when you disconnect them without removing the internal battery in the bellbox, and it'll still go off when you remove the cover in doing so.

If the wiring is for a sensor then you should be able to enter an engineer code into the panel to prevent the alarm going off. It's also possible that in cutting through the cable that you may have blown a fuse in the panel, in which case the sensor on the end of that wire will no longer work.
