Hi all

Just brought new place. Flat has a condensation/dehumidifier unit in the bedroom (this was before they installed double glazing, extractor fan, etc); makes a tonne of noise; connected via unswitched fcu so can't turn it off

Any advice on how to turn off or stop power to the device?

Pics attached

Any help much appreciated

Turn off the power, check that the socket is dead, unscrew socket, disconnect the supply to the FCU, remove FCU, trunking, switch and appliance, make good the wall.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, removing the fuse was the way I was thinking for the time being. Seems the simplest way, before I think of whether to remove the whole unit from the walls

I've never removed a fuse from within an fcu before. All the ones I've seen have had the fuse housing on the front. I'm assuming I just take the front off the fcu and then remove the fuse from black casing as per picture?

That thing is not an FCU. There is no fuse there. Is it a double pole switch.

If that is the isolation switch for the unit, turn the main power off and remove the brown and blue conductors on the load side of the switch.
If you have a multimeter check power is disconnected on both cbales before touching anything/

There really should be another fuse for the unit....somewhere....unless it has its own discrete feed from the consumer unit?

@ TTC.

Looks like the double pole switch is high level adjacent the unit*, but also pictured is an unswitched spur (with installers label over the fuse carrier), situated next to the socket outlet**

Thanks for reply. Yes, I was confused by that too. Doesn't have a discrete feed from consumer unit.

Does the attached picture show the fcu? It's just below the unit itself.

If you remove the sticker from the front of the plastic plate alongside the double socket (20160618_085109-jpg) you may find the fuse which can be removed.

Bingo

Are you sure that isn't a radon fan?

Well spotted Echo. It is a positive pressure ventilation fan of the type often used for radon reduction.

Monsoon Drair Energysaver Positive Pressure System for apartments/flats with pre heat.

Fresh, dry, filtered ambient air is introduced continuously into the property, diluting and displacing stale moist air within the dwelling, reducing condensation to acceptable levels.

The units are also beneficial in repelling the natural seepage of Radon in those parts of the country where this is thought to be a problem.

Radon is responsible for the majority of the mean public exposition to ionizing radiations, it is often the single largest contributor to an individuals background radiation dose, and is certainly the most variable from location to location. Radon gas from natural sources can accumulate in buildings, especially in confined areas such as basements.
