We have recently acquired a new Indesit washing machine which seemed to work fine.

We have noticed however that during periods it is not in use between washes, such as over night, a small amount (2 inches or so) of water accumulates in the bottom of the drum.

We're able to simply drain the drum using the drain function and wash as normal but this obviously is not supposed to be happening.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks,
Sandy

Sandy, the hose from the machine needs to rise up to the height of the machine, and then descend into the drainage system - either as a stand pipe or an under sink connection - which you appear to have.
Whats happening is that waste water from your sink is flowing back down the drain hose and into the drum.
I'll just edit this one to say that if your drain hose proves to be ok, then the next possibility is that the inlet water valve on the machine is passing a tiny amount of water i.e not shutting off fully.
John :)
