The water in my dishwasher doesn't heat, is it cheaper to buy a new machine or mend this one? The machine is now 5 years old.

Generally these are built to last about 5 years (common to see fail totally before this though).
If you have the ability check the heater element (should be about 27ish ohms resisitance)
Do not know on this model whether it has a resettable thermostat or not but check the stat for continuity.
Check PCB for damage around the heater relays
