Dishwasher water hose

bought a new sharp dishwasher which has come with a inlet hose albeit too short.
Previous dishwasher had some sort of rectangle block at the point where it screws onto the water pipe. Can someone advise why one has it and new one doesn't please? I need to buy a longer hose but want to make sure I buy the correct. I took the old one off the old machine and it had a small blue pipe inside and a couple of wires.

The old dishwasher did make a racket with the pipes although not sure if related to the washer or not.
