Disposing of coolant

What is the DIY home mechanic supposed to do with used coolant?
AFAIK none of the local council tips take used coolant, just oil.
Should it just be tipped into the oil drum?
In the past I've just poured it onto a large patch of weeds behind the house. This area has now been cleared and being used for storage.

You can use cat litter to absorb and throw away.
Most pour down the drain

Whatever you do, please do NOT pour it down any drain.
As suggested, go the cat litter route as that can be disposed of at the tip.

Just pour it down the foul water drain. It's oil that should never be tipped down drains or into any water course.

Water treatment plants have no problems handling ethylene glycol in the amounts we are talking about. It won't hurt anything but there are better ways to dispose it off.
