I have a few sheets of insulation backed plasterboard that I've removed.

The cost to dump them, as is, is huge, and has to be through a specialist recycler.

Any tips on how to best get the insulation off the plasterboard? I'm thinking of a big scraper, but I don't want to spend a lifetime on it.

Hoping for a pro tip here!

Thanks
Tim

In what state are they? Offer them for free on freecycle or similar local group. I always see people asking for it

I'd say pretty decent mostly. Popped then on Facebook locally but no bites yet (Just people laughing), I'll give it a few days in case, before I need them out of my way.

I have a small one like those, will give it a try on one of the small bits.

Put them in someone else's skip.

Not willing to do that. If it comes to it, more likely what Woody said with bins, top off peoples bins late night before the min man comes!

IF they are in a reusable state then please offer them on Freegle/freecycle/trashnothing.

So many people need to insulate more that if some sheets of this could be reused then it would be best.
Just add a photo, dimensions etc. and someone local will come and take them away and you no longer have a disposal problem.

I hope they will - listed them earlier today, so hopefully someone wants them over the weekend. Could mean insulating a reasonable size wall for free for someone, almost.

Plasterboard/drywall disposal is a world wide environmental problem.
When its buried in a tip it gives off well bad gases.
Recycling works but collection seems to be the problem for small works & householders.
Lots of big sites have special skips for p/b only - and my local council "tip" segregates p/b along with much else.

you can dump pb in the local amenity site.
cut the insulation off first with a saw.

Last time my BIL went to get rid of his old bathroom plasterboard, the local recycling centre wouldn’t take it, had to be unused offcuts only.o_O

Skips’ not always suitable for small jobs.

If it’s that much of a hazard, perhaps they need to make up a better product and stop selling it altogether.

Look at council website regarding the dump.
Ours has a plasterboard container. I'd just cut the board to manageable sizes and then run saw side on to remove insulation. Throw insulation in the non recycling container and the board in the plasterboard container at dump.
