Distemper peeling off wall after painting

I had part of a wall replastered with lime plaster at the start of January and have now being trying to repaint the whole wall. The rest of the wall (non-replastered section) must have been painted by the previous owners, I assume with a matt emulsion.

The paint I chose was an oil-bound distemper. I'd wanted something permeable and this was one of the few that said it could be used over both lime and over emulsion.

Today I tried painting the wall, following instructions e.g. thinning the first coat with water. The result: parts of the paint are peeling off in swathes, within an hour of painting. The areas affected seem to be perhaps around the join between lime plaster/old emulsioned areas.

For context, I don't have loads of cash to throw at this and I am also a complete novice at DIY, I may have made a very basic mistake. I'm not big/strong enough to do much more than simple "paint a wall" jobs but I was hoping this one was something I could manage...but now that I'm in this mess I'm wondering what the way out is.

Sand off dispenser is easiest.
Bodge a cheap DIY orbital sander on a vacuum with 120 grade disc.
Other way is to wash it off but a horrible job.

Worst thing is to try and paint over it as that's a problem now.
You need to scrape off paint and remove the distemper

Thanks so much. So was I wrong to use an oil-bound distemper in the first place? I thought it would be ok on lime plaster.

No.
It won't stick.
You needed to wash off the old distemper.

Look up the oil-bound distemper data sheet.
Whats the advice on that?

It said it was ok on lime. I checked before I bought it.

It's not lime your painting over. It's distemper.
Lime plaster is fine you have the correct paint.
Not the distemper though

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The wall I was painting over was (1) lime plaster - a patch repair done in January, unpainted, and (2) emulsion, from previous owners.

The new paint - the paint I used - is distemper.
