DIY central vacs

I intend to install a central vac in my conversion. Anyone with recent experience of costs, design, units etc. There does not appear to be any info' since 2008. Yet this is a growing area.

Only ever seen this type of thing in the US where it suits there building style (timber built, cavity walls) .
Imagine it's not very suitable for traditional UK home with solid walls and requires an attached garage for all the kit.

The Germans and Scandinavions go in for them with firms like Wap (now Nilfisk/Alto) doing them - but the factory-made kit build homes they go in for over there are somewaht like the timber framed structures in the States. I've worked on a couple of posh newbuilds where theses systems were incorporated, but the pipework had to be built into the walls in the construction phase rather than added on as an extra, like you said
