I want to connect an outside light on the wall next to the door.
The mains that are sticking out of the wall (new house) have 2 wires one red and one black.

The light I want to connect has a block with 3 spare terminals, I know I need to connect the red and black to the N and L however there is an earth terminal that is free.

On the instructions it says do not connect unless there is an earth coming from the mains ? ? ? ?

What do i do ?

Thank you

The cable that is sticking out of the wall, does it have a sheath on it? if so strip it back say 3 inches, and you should find a bare copper wire this is the earth wire. you should cover this with green / yellow sleaving or green insulation tape.

Thanks for that - spot on I have a bare copper wire.

I don't have insulation tape, with sellotape work ?

No, because of its low insulation resistance, try your local garage (filling staion) it is cheap and much safer than selotape
