DNO seal

I've had enough of this.

I've just cut the "wire rope" to which main cut-out seal is attached, and tomorrow I'm going to 'phone the DNO, confess, and insist that I'm a dangerous moron and that it's in the public interest to prosecute.

About 6 months ago I cut the seals on my cutout and meter for reasons that I won’t go into.

Anyway, 3 weeks ago I had a visit from the DNO who said that the meter reader had reported the seals were missing from the cutout and meter and they had come to investigate.

They had a quick look at the new intake arrangements and said, “I can see you’ve had some works done which all look in order so I’ll sign this reported incident off”

I asked if they were going to re-seal the meter and cutout and to my surprise they said they would have to test the complete installation before they could re-seal it and then they left.

I even offered to show them the test sheets for the new installation but they were not the slightest bit interested.

Illegal or not, has ANY qualified spark or competent person (for example an individual registered with a self certification scheme) EVER been prosecuted ?

Been threatened with it. And that was after cutting a seal with the permission of my manager to change an RCD which had failed to trip on a TT supply (ie Health & Safety grounds).

Round our way the new meters the DNO / meterplus are installing have two covers on, allowing you access to the terminal screws for the consumers side only, leaving the DNO side still sealed. (Although for some reason the DNO seal has been removed in this picture). There is also an integral SP isolator switch.

I like that, but it looks to me as if the load side terminal screws are exposed. Surely not?

Looks to me like a cover has been removed for the purposes of the photo, John

I took the cover off so you could see the integral isolator switch hidden under the cover

I just had a trawl through the Electricity Act 1989, which has a reference to

Interference with meters
11.—(1)

but I haven't found anything relating to interference with fuses (I have now stopped looking). And the stuff about meters makes clear that it is intereference with the proper recording of electricity used, that is the offence.
