Do I compact the sand under Concrete?

Simple but daft question really. I have prepped the area for a garage floor and just spread 5in of MOT ready cor compacting. My question is, does the sand layer above the compacted MOT that will protect the DPM also need to be compacted or will the concrete itself do that?
