Concrete floor - Do I need to compact sand?

Hi, I am ready to construct a concrete floor for my garden building.
I know I need to compact the Type 1 Mot and then lay a 50mm bed of sand on top, but is it also necessary to compact the sand?
There will be a 100mm slab of concrete on top.

Yes, compact it. 50mm is not needed though, just enough to fill the voids, with a light scattering over.
