Do I need a special tool to remove / replace this tap cartridge?

Leaky kitchen tap. This is what I've managed to expose of the valve so far. The rest of the metal is solid (welded). The tiny mark on the top is where the colour dot (hot / cold) is and is solid. Clearly I either need to expose more of this valve somehow or maybe I need a special tool.

Amazon sell groove nut sockets with external teeth, but if it's seized it might not budge
