I'm making a doorway in a half brick, load-bearing wall, in my house. So, loads not very big.
Lintel length is 1200mm and it will sit on brickwork that has an area of 150mm (long) x 100mm (wide) at each end.
The lintel will sit 25mm above the currently existing brickwork.
That means if padstones had to be used, they would at maximum, need to be about 150mm x 100mm x 15mm (deep). That's assuming just 5mm cement above and below the padstone (15mm + 5mm + 5mm = 25mm).
Do I really need padstones, or can I just use cement to make up the 25mm, to get the lintel to the required position? Thanks.
