i am planning on having a new consumer unit fitted, do all the sockets have to be rcd protected as i want one room to be protected from power loss if the rcd trips.

At the moment it is worded something like only when expected to be used for outside.

Imo if you used non standard type sockets you may get away without rcd protection for just them.

failing that put the room on its own rcbo

Give us a clue, what is in this one room that makes it special?

I would have thought that the electrician who will install it should be able to advise you.... ;)

PS Under the new regulations, every home should have an RCD, or two, maybe even three. JD would say there should be even more
