I wouldn't say that you always get what you pay for - there are lots and lots of sharks in rip-off Britain.
However you very seldom get something that you don't pay for and these are relatively cheap (though I've seen cheaper).

i think we pay around £6.50 for these pir's! yep there cheep, but roody good!
we have used them for about 4 years now! and "touch wood" there gr8!

we use the veritas r8! around the £37.50 mark.... and again there a sound domestic panel....
