A builder friend told me I should have had a DPC fitted ontop of the extension walls, just below the large slabs on the top (not sure what correct term is), as rainwater can seep through the cement between the slabs and cause damp. Is he right? (If relevant, my walls are single skin breeze block).

Thanks for help.

I think you mean the top of a parapet wall. If so, yes you do need a dpc. There are high grip dpcs designed for this use. Or you could use a parapet system that prevents any possibility of water ingress. That would be a metal or composite type system that sits on top of the masonry.

It's hard to believe that you have a single skin parapet, sticking up past the roof, but if so then you would not need a DPC as it wont be doing anything - water can get into the wall below the DPC
