Are you a bricklayer who never got over his love of Lego as a child?

OR do you do whatever you do, because it provides you with the highest standard of living for smallest sacrafice? Was it circumstance? like a trade passed from father to son? Is there somewhere else you'd realy rather be?

I'm just curious/nosy if you don't mind me askin :)

I applied for a job with my current employer cos I thought they would offer good career prospects and relative job security. Twelve years on I'm still there, albeit doing a rather different job. I stay there cos of the security, the people I work with, and the fact that I feel I'm making a difference. I certainly don't do it for the money! It's not what I'd planned though.

Problem is, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. :D

I decided from a very early age (about 7 or 8 ) that I wanted to teach - money just didn't come into it. Even now at 71, I still enjoy the challenge, but in fairness to those who really need the work, I make it clear that I will only work if no other replacement can be found.

Kvasir - I hadn't thought of that :) even though I have had jobs where the work itself wasn't much fun but the people and the job satisfaction made all the difference...example - after leaving school, I went to work in a gang tarmacing for Fitzpatricks. It was hard work, from 7 till 4, like trojans come hail or high water (prefered it when it was raining a bit tbh). But I liked it because I got on well with the others - we had the crack
Also, it got me very fit!

Bolo - Thats a great thing imo :) A lifes ambition fulfilled and ongoing! Good for you fella ;)

Dont "they" say you should never work doing the things you enjoy the most?

That said I dont completly enjoy what I do because if I did I'd hate it even more than I do now....I think

Yes, I bet being payed £Xmillion completely ruined the pleasure of playing football for the the likes of Wayne Rooney and his mrs

And I don't watch pornos on a regular basis, but the male actors display of pleasure in his craft looked very convincing ;)

started work as a fireman on steam loco's, in the 60s for british railways left to go into the building trade, wish i was still there now, :( money looks good now, it was in the 60s just could'nt handle the shifts :)i dream on, puff puff puff  ah the wonderful spell on steammmmm ;)

Blimey, you`re old enough to have taught me  You weren`t in Sussex teaching in the 60`s were you ;)

It keeps me off the streets, pays the bills etc but if you think of anything that you really like doing and then make a job of it, it becomes a ''Job''
I,d rather be a millionaire and travel round the world, sitting on beaches and danggling me toes in the water. :D

I'd like to be a beach towel tester, somewhere warm and sunny.

Since Day One of becoming self-employed, I've been unable to understand why I waited so long to do it. There's no going back.

When JohnD retires I want to buy his bikini-waxing business off of 'im.

Today I'm off to fix a leak thats sprung on some pipework I did
Nothing major, just a drip on an endfeed fitting...bloody thing held for amonth at 1bar (CH) and then tiddles

The question is though Durgo, will you enjoy doing it? As a matter of interest, since I know nothing about pipework, was there anything you could have done at the time to prevent the drip happening at all?
