Does a small sink for a kitchen island need an overflow?

I've just found out that the small ceramic sink I was intending to use on a kitchen island doesn't have an overflow outlet.
[It's the small size RangeMaster sink - their normal-sized equivalent does have an overflow]

I'd assumed an overflow hole on a sink would be virtually essential, in case a tap was ever accidentally left on somehow.

But is it?
Most sinks I use have taps with water pressures so high that, if left on, I doubt the overflows would be able to cope in any case?

Basically, is it common / acceptable to have a small sink on an island without an overflow?

Your taking a chance of ruining your floor covering if no overflow, if your on ground floor and the risk is acceptable go with the sink you have.

Very often sinks without overflows have a strainer rather than a plug, so that the waste is always open.

my thought check your insurance
if you knowingly fit a sink thats "not fit for purpose" or use not in accordance with manufacturer's instruction or knowing the possible consequences do not take reasonable care and actions to prevent the damage so negligent ---
---now not saying it will be the case but can you take the risk ??

Small sinks in kitchens are not designed primarily to be filled. They are designed for quick rinsing of veg/hands etc.

We have a sink and a half sink. No separate overflow on either, one sink will overflow into the other. That's
the theory but in practice, it doesn't always work out.
