Domestic hot water supply not working

Can any of you knowledgable chaps out there advise me what might be causing the domestic hot water supply to only be supplied hot if the central heating is turned on?
My boiler is an Ariston Eurocombi gas model.

Most common causes are stuck divertor valve and inoperative flow switch.

Does the water get hot and stay hot, or fluctuate hot/tepid/cold?

Thanks for the info, the water does not heat at all, some one else also said it may be the diverter, I will investigate.
