To reduce the 80,000 accidents that are forecast to happen around the home over the Christmas period, the ECA is reminding homeowners to check that their Christmas lights are in safe working order.

What? I was expecting a joke/punchline from yourself not a serious post

My Grandad has a set of lights wired with cotton braided singles. The lights are wired in parallel, so at each light the flexes are knotted and a branch occurs to the lampholder. Theres 10 IIRC. They have screw in lamps. Originally they were all decorative lamps, shaped and coloured like snowmen, santa etc. Sadly these are no longer produced and he has had to resort to fitting plain coloured lamps as the old lamps fail. :(

'Ealth and safety gone mad.
They'd be better advised to tell people not to get paralytic at home over Christmas and then try to take on everyday tasks such as basting a 16lb turkey with hot fat or climbing a stepladder to hang up the mistletoe.
The biggest cause of domestic fires is fags and matches - about 40%.
Oh and by the way - don't let your child play on the motorway while you're checking your fairy lights

You could carefully cut the base and put another filament or led inside.

BTW they always appear on ebay for not too much money
