Don't Pay...

For the second time I have been riped off by a customer who I believe, never intended to pay.

OK! it was a small job and I only lost £350.00, but that's not the point.

Six months down the line and he will be paying excess on his car insurance and hopefully will have his premiums jacked up.

Would there be a call for a central register of people who don't pay their tradesmen?

The only way it would work is if all past and present/future trades provided details.

These sort people are scum. Give 'em a couple of extra 'go-faster' stripes on their car. Hope its an expensive make.

Give them an extra stripe from me!

I have often thought of this having being knocked twice, although claimed back from one via cmall claims court, the second time the builder seemed quite knowledgable in ignoring all correspondance from me and the court and the court bailifs and a specialist firm were unable to get me my money :(

The only problem I see with it would be vindictive tradesmen or cowboys that may be submitting customers who have not paid them for genuine reason, certainly a point I would like to see discussed with tradesmen and customers mind you.

Yes, totally agree. Vermin!

P.S. John, you may want to check the spelling on the last word of your signature. Apologies for being pedantic! ;)

I have 'heard' of bad paying customers to have half a brick thrown into their manhole.

Cost a fortune to have all the c-rap pumped out and removed. Or a bag of post mix poured in.

One customer was quoted over £3000 to have the 4FT manhole dug out and re-built.

Andy

We don't leave site until we have full payment. If not parts are removed and water capped off!!!!

In this case, no parts were supplied by me so nothing to take. But you have given me an idea.

Turn off water supply in front of house, half a bucket of water and a bag quick set concrete poured in. That should cost him more than he owes me to put right.

Out of interest what work did you do for the customer?

Laminate floor in bedroom and outside tap.

Piece of hose on outside tap, then 'post' the other end of the hose through the letterbox. Tap on full bore, then beat a hasty retreat. You fitted and paid for that tap, you have the right to use it!

Hopefully, your customers will look like my animated signature.

Only problem is that customer can thhen do same to you and cost you £3000...? How do you prevent tit for tat and further escalation? I scratch his car and next night he scratches mine. In this case I am then down £xxxx and the situation is worse.

Why do you think he never intended to pay? Did he complain about the quality of your work at the time or something?

I done some work for a solicitor a few ago. He was a complete crook. What happened was, I done some work in one of his many rented properties. I had posted 2 invoices and got no reply, so I called him at work and he never returned my calls. So one afternoon I called him at home knowing full well that he was at work. He wife answered and I told her that he owned me money for work completed and asked her to get him to call me. After 30 minutes I called back and she was amazed saying that she only just spoke to me and her husband was at work. I informed her that I will be calling every 30 minutes to speak to her husband. And so I did up until 11.30pm. When I called again she picked up the phone and screamed to her husband "for god's sake, pay the man" he came on the phone telling me that there was a mix up and that I will received the cheque within 2 days. Two days later the cheque arrived.

So John, you could always call every 30 minutes and see how long it takes for them to get feed up with you. Even when you hide your phone number they don't know that it's you and to leave the phone off the hook is very inconvenient. Even if they put the answer phone on it will still wake them up at 2am

Happy Ringing.............................go on give them a call

I know where he lives, he does not know where I live.
