Door catching floor

Hi All

So I need to take abit of this door at the bottom as it’s catching on the floor when opening. I’ve tried to adjust the hinges with no avail. The floor is tiles so I aren't messing with them. What are my options because the door looks like vinyl chip board. I have visions it will chip easily ?

Any advice much appreciated

Planer with a good blade won't chip it.
Use masking tape where you're planing so to minimise chipping further.
Before you refit, seal the bottom with varnish, possibly oil based.

Ahhh ok. I did think planer but wasn’t sure if it would damage it. I’ll give it a bash and tape the edges before cutting.

When you take the door off, I would recommend sealing the top, bottom and side with clear varnish or something similar.

The chipboard facing should not have been visible.

Fair enough. I did think it odd that someone would have left it like that.

Path of lesser resistance- let the bottom hinge move slightly further out (read: into the bathroom). That will change the axis on which it turns and (hopefully) lift it clear of the floor.

Assuming that it was previously OK- glue some matches into the old hinge screw holes. Chisel off the excess. Let the hinge out by a 1mm-1.5mm, redrill and rehang the door. Alternatively, if you pack out the lower hinge with thin cardboard, that might have the same effect- the difference is that it will push the lower half of the door closer to the opposite part of the door frame.

It should save you from having to trim the door.

When planeing do not go off the edge from the middle or you will push off or splinter the end, stop before the end and the start again from the end

What type of hinges are fitted? That can make a lot of difference to the most suitable answer.
