It's a Dorma size 3-4 overhead door closer on a 24 inch FD30 door. And I set it to close but after a couple of days it's either slamming the door or doesn't have enough force to close the door. I thought it was the door closer so I replaced it ( it was originally a Briton of similar standard) but it isn't, both door closers have done exactly the same thing. Both have been fitted using the template provided by the manufacturer. There is a bedroom directly above the door and it's causing problems. Can anybody help please?

There should be two settings on the closer - one for the main close action, the other for the final close action. These do affect each other but both need to be set. Factors which can influence the closer's action include dragging on flooring, improper fit in the casing/frame, prresence of threshold seal, presence of cold smoke seal, stiffness of lock/latch, etc - all assuming it is properly installed in the first place. Even after setting the closer action will change as the seals bed in and so it will be necessary to reset the adjustmnents a couple of times in the first yer. Any chance of a photo?

Could be loose on the hinges, any strong back draft? both can cause inconsistent performance,

Thanks for all the replies. It isn't dragging on the flooring and there are no seals on the door. When the closer is off the door swings perfecelt withoin the frame. No loose hinges, nothing out of whack. The lock works fine. However I adjust the main sweep of the door, fast or slow, doesn't affect things. It's the last six inches where it slams or doesn't shut. The door closer is installed as per instructions using the paper template provided. Here's a photograph.
