Door frame damaged, gap behind architrave..

Hi everyone,
I was removing my old architraves only to find that the door frame and architrave is one piece of wood?! :?
So tearing the architrave off I took some of the door frame off too.

Now i'm putting new ones on and theres a gap behind it (where the door hinge will be going), Should I just pack this with wood/glue and attach door hinge to this?
any ideas please
