My problem is that I have purchased a replacement hardwood door frame for an external door (imperial 6 feet 6 inches by 2 feet 6 inches.

I find that the timber used for the frame is a quarter of inch less in thickness than the original frame. Consequently, the frame is half an inch less in width than the opening in the brickwork. How should this be corrected?

Centre your new frame in the door opening and pack the quarter of an inch you are left with each side.
