Door in back of van wont open

Seems top jaws on my rear lefthand door won't open but bottom jaws do open on my back door of van. Can I repair it myself before taking it to mechanic? Is it a snapped wire?

Still haven't fixed it. Top jaw won't open no matter how hard I lever it and bottom jaws don't close. Lots of stuff pushing against door to be fair but not sure if that makes a difference.

Tske off ply and unscrew internal panels? Gotta be cable or rod
