Question on door handle fitting jigs, can any explain why on most jigs the spindle bore is 44mm when it only has to be big enough to accommodate the spindle.

Such a big spindle bore of 44mm limits what handle design you can have plus gives less support for the latch.

Am I missing something.

Not my area. I also have never used a jig.
Just make a guide for 13mm hole for spindle. Don't need a jig for standard latches.

Think with 44mm hole you would use through bolts. I sometimes use through bolts on standard house latches.

That's all I know about it. Not sure I've helped
