Hi, I want to stop my bathroom door opening on its own accord. I thought there was a problem with the door frame being out of plumb, but cannot find evidence of this being the case. Of course if closed all the way it latches and stays there but it always swings back towards the wall if not. I was wondering if is possible to somehow put some braking effect on the hinges.

You could try offsetting one or both the hinges to correct the plumb, e.g by opening out screw holes into ovals. Failing that, I found a strip of thin foam plastic/rubber stapled to the top edge of the door close to the hinge line provides enough friction between door and door-frame to keep the door ajar and is not unsightly.

Door fitted correctly will not swing so needs adjusting .
