Dot and Dab Questions

Well just 2 really...

On an 8x4 board, what will the dab distribution be like; or is it just random?
And, what is the depth of the space between the board and the wall?

its not random an theres a fire safety aspect to the adhesive dabs.
tight to the wall as possible for me.
probly vids on you tube will show or check british gypsums site.
