I have a double pole light switch - bought in error - to replace the cracked switch in the garage. The new switch has 4 terminals L1, L2, N1 and N2.

Which of these do I use 2 put my 2 wires into? Or can't I use it to replace an ordinary switch? Will I have to put this one in a cupboard and buy another?

This is not a light switch, it's a standard double pole switch intended to switch both 'live' and neutral simultaneously. However, you can still use it for what you want.

Use L1 and L2.

(Hint: If you had a cheap multimeter you could have worked this out. )

Not a standard feature with current evolutionary variant of human though, thank goodness, or I'd be out of a job!
