double pole switch ???

hi i have been advised to put a double pole switch on my bathroom fan can someone please explain what a double pole switch is and what its function is many thanks

If its a timer fan then it should be triple pole.

Double pole will break live and neutral.
Triple pole will switch off live, neutral and the switched live that turns a timer fan on.

If you are not sure get a competent electrician to do it. It is notifiable work as it is in a bathroom.........
