From a landlords perspective actually getting a job done to regulations is now a task in itself, I have lost count of the bad inspections, lack of building control notifications and the absolutely total lack of any policing by the so called trade bodies... complaints about our members... you must be joking take it up with the member. And who cares if its not done to regulation... nobody, have a pop at complaining Eg we had a flat rewired, sparky did the job, got paid, then went silent on the paperwork... Building control - well you need to get an electrical inspection done, err ok but don't you want a cert is that not the law.. silence, Trade body- complain to sparky and then get a inspection done. My only recourse was the courts... at £600 this was more expensive than getting an inspection. But still no notification.Oh Flameport you old cynic you.

yes indeed, I think that Part P was made with the best of intentions, however not worked out very well, I think that Parliament were lead to believe that it would cost each enterprise about £500 per about 5 years, oh dear.
One good thing, more folk bought test meters and the price went down (whether folk actually use them or use them properly I will not comment)![]()
Building control don't care, Trade bodies don't care.
On the other side is the poor sparky.. lets pay out a small fortune to be regulated by said trade bodies and then assessed by whatever turns up and asks for a paper based answer.
The whole system has morphed to a money pit that in my view does nothing to improve standards, when do the rubbish get chucked out or banned? As far as I can tell sparkies have swathed themselves in the camouflage of being a professional when they are just tradesmen, not their fault as that's what they were told to do, but in any other profession you would be struck off.
