Downlight planning

Hi,

I am struggling a bit on what to do with location of down lights.

I have two tall base units that naff me up marked in red so not quite sure whether I am thinking too much about aesthetics and not enough about practical light. It is quite a dark kitchen (at the moment).

I will have under cabinet lighting as well here plus it is white worktops.

Wiring has been plumbed in with groins running horizontally give or take a radius of 20-30cm's for the light plan I have here to place a light.

Find out where the joists, pipes and other obstructions are in the ceiling. The house may make the decisions on locations for you!

Sorry, I call joists groins for some reason lol...I do live near the sea so give me some slack

OMG.
Here we have a situation where in the old days of a few years ago someone would have installed eight directional spotlights attempting to illuminate an area at a cost of about 50 W per luminaire and the result would have been shadows and darkness over much of the area concerned. (With about 400 W in the cost of this illumination.)

In the current era, you have LED luminaires available which will give you much better light output over a much wider area at much less running cost.

I strongly suggest that you update your knowledge of LED luminaires and consider installing them as opposed to anything resembling a "spotlight".

Well, if you want to light up a room with lights which tend not to be very good at doing the job of lighting up rooms, that's your prerogative.

Do you actually mean that you want recessed lighting as opposed to flush or pendant?

Then look for large ones, not what are basically torches.

Or rectangular LED panels set flush into the ceiling.

I've decided to leave the cut out for now until the cabinet is in place, and then will see if its suitable.
