Putting some downlighters in my ceiling and have a couple of questions:-

1) The terminal blocks on the actual light fitting are too small to accept 2 cables (cable in and the one back out again to next light). Is it acceptable to use a terminal block in the ceiling for the 2 wires to go into then use a short piece of cable from the terminal block into the downlighter itself.

2) The instructions say do not earth, so I assume I just cut back the earth wire away from the twin and earth cable I have installed? Besides there is no terminal on the fitting for an earth cable anyway.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Never had any problems terminating the cables, but you could use a 20A J/B instead.
We generally don't like to snip earth cable. Even if it's not wanted now someone may decide they might need it at a later date, so generally we just stick a connector over it and wrap a piece of g/y tape over it.

many thanks for your help. Will probably just stick with the terminal block as there a bit smaller than a junction box else my ceiling will be full of boxes! :)
