First time on site and find it very helpful. Apologies if a bit long but want to give as much detail as possiple.
I have fit down lights in multiple rooms at this stage and have a few question marks?
1) INSULATION: I have chosen to cut away the insulation in the attic space above the down lighter as I figured there would be excess heat to the area, is this overkill and is there a more efficient safety method. I read in one forum entry that terracotta pots where used, seems strange to me. Wonder what the average elec does?
2) JUNCTION BOX: My house uses the loop method of wiring.
In connecting the (on average) 3 down lights I had to discard the old ceiling rose and the connector blocks contained within(switched live, appliance, neutral, earth) and use my own connector blocks with insulation tape (not like doing) to mimic the same but include my down lights live appliance live block.
I have read 20 amp junction box is the better way to go but they seems to only allow a max of 3 wires (1.5mm) and with my 3 down light and source live it make four wires, had to revert to old connector blocks as I could fit 4 wires into junction box terminal, any ideas?
3) 6 DOWNLIGHTS ONE CIRCUIT: I plan on putting 6 50w down lights in my sitting room in lieu on the single 100w appliance. I would imagine 6 x 50w would be a bit much for single feed from loop, wondering if I divide into 2 elements in loop 3 on each and sent the 2 switched lives to same light switch, would this work at sharing load? Not sure if it makes difference as all light on loop system pull off the one line anyway?
