I have just bought a second hand wooden fire surround that is fitted with 2 downlights under the mantel. There are no fittings to connect to the electrics. Can i buy the neccesary fittings so that i can plug the lights in?
Thanks

Not sure what you mean by fittings! Do you mean cable?
If the down lights are 230v then you could wire them to a 3 Amp rated plug and use a socket as your power source.
If the downlights are 12v then you will need a suitable tranformer before or as part of the plug.

Just buy two new downlight fittings (measure the ones already in and match their physical size to avoid having to cut anything out), preferably LED ones - they only use a couple of watts each, and you can use cheap ones because the light quality wont be terribly important as they arent lighting the room. Fit a plastic adaptable box to the back of the surround, with 3 glands for the split to the two lights and the plug.
