Does anyone know the format of the IR signal required to operate these?

Or does anyone have one that they can use in conjunction with a photo transistor to look at the signal?

Tony

If it is a version of the Varilight one, then it can "learn" any IR signal, you could program it to operate from your TV controls..

You tap the centre of the dimmer six times.

Then press a button on the remote for 2 secs.

The light will flash.

Press the same button again to confirm.

Here are the details.

Thanks for all those helpful answers.

The dimmer is actually very versatile as it can apparently be programmed to operate off a button on the Sky remote.

Since its function will be to control the filiament bulb at the TV end of the room thats ideal as we already have NINE remote handsets on the table.

Also a useful tip about the phone camera seeing the IR signal from the remote. That will be a useful aid to telling if a handset is sending out a signal.

or I'm sure by now you can get a remote app for the Iphone?
does it have an IR sender? pretty sure my sone ericson does..

actually picked up the camera phone trick when I went to get a replacement for my dad's car alarm fob..
told him it was knackered and had tried 2 new batteries..

got out his camera phone to show me the fob was working, then gave me instructions on how to re-synch it with the car..
