Hi guys

I’ve been reading about DPC and that we should be bedding it on fresh mortar so that it could key and prevent water ingress into the voids and have no risk of penetration as per British standards.

During my build the builders have laid the inner leaf DPC on fresh mortar, unfortunately before they continued, they disappeared for a number of months... The DPC that was on fresh mortar has since come off the mortar considering nothing was above holding it down and it being knocked whilst I was doing other stuff.

When the builders do come back, do I expect them to knock off the mortar and replace with a fresh bed prior to relaying the DPC. I’m anticipating they will come back and just put the DPC back on top and carry on building assuming I know no better, and would be quicker to complete the job..

I worry if they do this, it compromises the structural integrity of the building and lead to all sorts of long term problems...

It's not really a big issue; many things are not done 'by the book' but still don't cause problems.

Thanks, I guess I was worrying about the DPC not keying properly to the mortar leading to eventual building movement. :D

Downward force is what holds most buildings up not the adhesive properties of the mortar etc.
