Hi all,

I am working on a kitchen and have started clearing it out. It has always had awful damp.

You can see the end of the kitchen, whoever lived here has been a fan of the foam...

After stripping it all out I can see someone has been injecting the wall with a chemical DPC assuming this to be rising damp. However, it is clear that...

1) The outside level is about 250mm higher than the finished floor level
2) When the floor slab was laid the damp proof membrane under it hasn't been tied into the party wall or the outside wall.

You can see the membrane here...

What remedial measure should I take? Yes, I need to clear outside and get this lower than the internal floor level - but what next?

Should I break up the slab, get rid of everything and start again? Is it possible to tie a new dpm into the wall without rebuilding all the walls i.e. do a section at a time?

Any advice most welcome.

Thanks.

could you tank the walls with newton membrane, lay new slab ontop of the existing one (with new DPM) and take the DPM up the wall behind the newton membrane?

you have a wet patch by plumbing. Unless all other parts of wall and floor are equally wet, suspect a plumbing leak.

More pics of the kitchen and exterior would help.

A French drain for all high ground levels is probably necessary.

Knock off the interior plaster to the window cill level and render back up with S&C and an additive after allowing the wall to dry out.

Depending on kit area you could rip up and re-pour the slab.

Are the walls solid?

Is there any render on the outside?
