Hi,

Forgive my ignorance! I'm just about to order all the fittings I need from screwfix for an outside tap. I'm following the instructions in the Collins DIY manual and will be using compression/push fit.

I have my eye on these drain cocks:

http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;j...ZOSFFA?_dyncharset=UTF-8&fh_search=drain+cock

What additional fitting will I need for, say, this drain cock:

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=65868&ts=46928

I'm not sure how to attach the drain cock to the pipe run.

Thanks for helping,

Don't bother with those drain cocks, just use a 15mm compression isolating valve. Simpler to fit and more reliable to use.

Avoid the 'light pattern' if you fit the drain indoors - there's no gland around the shaft, so more water runs up the thread than runs out of the outlet when you open it.

For a few pennies more, the 'type A' ones have a gland, so they don't leak (as much).

Choose one with a plain 15mm spigot, rather than a 1/2" male thread, and it will fit straight into a compression tee.

I have never fitted one to push-fit myself, but I have noticed that the diameter of the spigot varies a bit, which may lead to problems.

Hi All,

I thought as much that the drain cock fits into a tee. I was looking at this drain cock:

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=65868&ts=69028

and wondering how on earth it would fit into this tee:

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=45755&ts=69078

I now realise that this drain cock:

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=17843&ts=69140

will fit the above tee using the nut and olive already in the tee. :)

Ah well, you can spot a (3rd) world class plumber a kilometre off!

Cheers,
