The only drain cock that im able to find on my system is on the same bit of pipe work with the mains stop valve which controls the suppy to the house

Will this be a problem when i want to drain down the system and will i need to carry out additional steps? Do just need to turn off the stop valve when carrying out the drain down?

Thanks

Read it, the drain off in the photo is to drain cold mains only and won't drain heating system. You need to find a drain off on the heating system pipework or if there isn't one isolate the smallest rad loosen valve, drain radiator and remove, then attach hose to radiator valve and open valve to drain

Got it. Thanks for that. Just found another one above the boiler....

Would that be for the ch?
Only thing is its about 4 ft higer than all the downstairs rads which means its not the lowest point on the system

Frankly, be grateful some tw't did not fit it with the nut up against a wall, or the outlet in a position making it impossible to attach a hose:)

Know what you mean.
Was out servicing a Sine 18 yesterday. Some weeps from unions under the boiler. Boiler fitted smack in the corner so right hand panel would not come off. Would love to own a magic wand to summon the fitter to carry out the task

So will that drain off do the job, or an i better off draining from a rad valve to make sure the system is fully emptied?

Nice one.

Will fit a drain cock somwhere suitable while ive got the system drained.
Cheers

Make sure it's a decent one...

Type B and A respectively.

While drained, if you have pipes in a cupboard or other inobtrusive are, you may wish to consider fitting a tee and one of these:

Then insert one of these:

in the future, you can remove the Drain Cock and attach a hose with a short piece of pipe and a nut and olive, and quickly drain the system (at least the upstairs and relevant drop, if applicable). DC's are notorious for not opening and these can be a boon. I always fitted them on my installs, especially as a cylinder drain point.

Great, Thanks again both for the advice.

One last question ive got... (hopefully)

Is it okay to leave the system empty for a while do to decorating, fitting new rads/valves etc ( It would probably be empty for a couple of weeks)

Just wanted to get your opinions on leaving it empty for a while and how that might affect the corrosion rate.

Cheers
