Quick q but probably embarrassing! - do you need to drain down to re-charge an expansion vessel? I know it's probably stupid but want to be sure... the water can't get out (unless the diaphragm has split though can it)?

what are trying to recharge? a boiler or a standalone expansion vessel ? heating expansion?
an external expansion vessel (for an unvented hot water cylinder).

unless qualified to work on unvented you should not be touching it and you need an engineer with G3 certification
i hold such a ticket and cover your area £57 if straight forward test and inspect
