Question for all boiler engineers/people who have done this....

What's the best way to re-cnharge an expansion vessel?

There's different ways to do it - what I do is this:

drain the system until the gauge reads 0 - then drain another 10 litres approx from the system - then re-charge.

What way do you all use as I know there are probably better ways

Drain the system to relieve the pressure, then use a bike pump on the schrader valve and pump it up do the required psi.

drain the whole system , rads and all?? or close rads and drain the pipework? I don;t like closing valves under boilers - sometimes they leak after!

Yeh thats true, just leave the rads and drain until you reach 0bar pressure. If while pumping you feel too much resistance, drain a little bit more out and so on.

good point - I've re-charged 4 and drained about 10 litres after the gauge was on 0 - and all was good - just wondered what ways everyone else did it
