Hello.

My garage and house are 1 meter apart but the house is higher. My current patio is 2 bricks below the house damp Proof course and I want to extend the patio along the garage. Now, I'm going to add channel drainage along the house and garage but the drainage is going to be 1 brick above garage damp course.

How much of a problem is this going to be? I've included a picture below.

You will run the risk of rain splashes soaking the masonry above the dpc.

Not a problem if...

The bricks and mortar above dpc are ffl rated.

There is a cavity wall arrangement with a decent sub-dpc trough.

There is a lot of overhang off the house and garage.

Alternatively, you could chop in a run of lead flashing along the abutment to deal with the splashes. This would need to finish 150mm above the paving and say 25mm below the slab top.

Thanks for your reply. Directly above is the over hang from the garage roof so i dont think rain splashs would be a problem.

Seams it will have plastic drainage against the brick can i rule out rising damp?

would you advise fitting the flashing anyway?

Many thanks.

Sorry to push on this guys, but any thought on my questions. I hope to make a start on this tomorrow but not sure on the best method to take.
