What is the best way to drain one of these since the inlet is on the bottom and the outlet is at the top?

Turn off power to cylinder.
Tie ball valve up to a piece of wood across cistern.
Open hot taps to drain cistern.
Attach hose to drain valve at base of cylinder and open valve.
