Looking for some advice on an apparent fault with my Zone Valve actuator. When the central heating is energised the actuator springs between A and B with a fairly loud noise. It still does this when removed from the valve.
Any ideas on the problem and soloution please..

sounds like the motor in the actuator. remove the top and have a look

Thanks for the quick response. The motor appears to try and open the valve then springs shut again and then the motor moves to reset and tries again. it continues to do this and the actuator never actually opens to allow water to flow to the boiler, so it also starts and stops. With this partial movement and resetting by the motor, do you think this is still the problem

is the spindle on the valve ok ? remove the actuator and check the spindle on the valve moves freely.
if the spindle moves freely the teeth in actuator maybe damaged or faulty.
then you'll need to replace the complete actuator.

Thanks again for coming back. The spindle turns easily by hand with about 90 degrees of travel. Is it a common fault ?.

spindles useally seize with sludged system.
actuators can play up anytime depending on age.

Hi,

My central heating system is starting up but only running intermittently and not for long enough to heat the house. It improves slightly if we run the hot water taps for a while.

This started recently with the sub-zero temperatures and the most noticable change is in the zone actuator. It's cycle is much quicker and louder than before, and is trying to click from A to B every 15 seconds, but doesn't get to B then starts again.

Could this be what's stopping the heating from running consistently?
